January News

January 2, 2009

Snow Plowing on E Lk Desire Dr – Thanks to Craig Wallace for sending this picture of Nick Vacca plowing the roads with his chained up lawn mower so people could get out around Christmas.  We had about a foot of snow, and it still hasn’t melted completely.

Christmas Tree Pick Up/Drop Off – 1/3/09-1/4/09 - Each year the local Boy Scouts do a community service where they pick up Christmas trees for donations (since our trash service does not pick them up).  You can either leave your tree out this Saturday, 1/3/09 out by the road from 9am-12pm for pick up, or you can take your tree either Saturday or Sunday to the Safeway parking lot in Fairwood from 9am-4pm where the Boy Scouts will be collecting them both days. Checks can be made out to BSA Troop #449 and left in an envelope on the tree.  They can also be sent to Nativity Lutheran Church, 17707 140th Ave. SE, Renton, WA 98058.  Thanks for your support!  Contact Heather@smith.net for questions.

Bear Tracks in the Snow – Well, one of our neighbors was skeptical of the report of bear prints, but they did find prints recently that are significantly larger than their mastiff (they checked) who is probably the biggest dog in the neighborhood.  She uploaded pictures in case anyone can identify them. She’s not convinced they are bear prints based on the examples of bear prints she found online. To her they look like the shape of dog paws, and maybe they just become bigger in melting snow. But while their dog obviously has been in their yard, he hasn't been in other peoples - unless they have large dogs around them also.  Here is the photo. You be the judge.

Water Rescue Training – If anyone saw rescue vehicles recently near the frozen ice ponds at Parkside and Woodside, it was only a training exercise.

Lake Desire Open House: 1/4/09 at 6pm  - All neighbors are invited to Darrell and Vi Anderson’s house at 17232 174th Ave SE.  This is the first house on the right on the Christian School Street.  No need to bring anything.  Come hungry.

Lake Desire Community Club Meeting – 1/20/09  at 7:30pm at the Clubhouse – This is our annual meeting.  All neighbors are invited, and welcome to suggest agenda items.  Please nominate officers for the club by responding to this email by 1/10/09. We welcome anyone willing to volunteer!
